SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – Authorities have identified a 74-year-old man as a person of interest following the discovery of human remains at a property in San Diego, prompting an active investigation by local police and prosecutors.

The San Diego County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement that Dwight William Rhone, a former tenant at the property, is the person of interest. Rhone is currently in custody and faces a charge in connection with the death of a man named Bernardo Moreno, though officials have not released additional details about the homicide case.

The investigation began when California Highway Patrol detectives suspected that human remains were located on the Southcrest property. On Tuesday, multiple agencies, including the FBI, executed a search warrant and recovered the remains. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether they belong to more than one individual, and the identities and causes of death remain under investigation.
