OAK GROVE, MISSOURI – Traffic on Interstate 70 near Oak Grove, Missouri, was brought to a standstill on Wednesday after a crash involving two tractor-trailers sent more than a dozen cattle loose across the highway and nearby areas.
The collision occurred on the westbound lanes near mile marker 28.4. One of the trucks was carrying cattle, and the impact caused the trailer to break, allowing several animals to escape. Both eastbound and westbound lanes were temporarily closed while troopers, transportation crews, and tow operators cleared the wreckage. Debris was scattered across the roadway, but authorities reported that the truck drivers were unharmed.
Eastbound lanes reopened first, followed by westbound traffic once the site was cleared. However, the incident was not fully resolved, as 13 cattle remained missing into the early afternoon. Local agencies and ranchers were called in to help locate and corral the animals. Aerial footage showed responders searching fields and ditches, and at least one cow was seen resting in the median before being roped and secured.
Officials urged residents and motorists to exercise caution in the area and to call 911 if they spot the cattle, warning against approaching the animals due to safety risks. By late afternoon, traffic resumed normally, but the search for the remaining cattle continued to ensure safety for drivers and local residents.
