5 killed and 2 hurt in Thailand Bangkok market shooting

Five people were killed and two others were injured on Monday during a mass shooting at a busy seafood market in Bangkok, Thailand. The incident took place at the Or Tor Market in the Chatuchak district, a popular location for both locals and tourists. Authorities confirmed that the gunman, a Thai citizen, died by suicide after opening fire inside the market. Police identified the victims as four security guards and one market employee, with two additional workers suffering injuries during the attack.

According to Police Lieutenant Siam Boonsom, the violence stemmed from a personal dispute. Investigators believe the gunman was angered by an earlier conflict in which he accused one of the security guards of scratching his car. Officials emphasized that the attack was not linked to Thailand’s current diplomatic tensions with Cambodia. The shooting drew attention to the country’s widespread gun ownership and high rates of gun-related homicides, even as Thai authorities continue promoting Bangkok as a global tourist destination following the recent legalization of same-sex marriage earlier this year.
