A dangerous situation is developing in King County, Washington, where a flash flood warning has been issued following a levee failure just days after historic flooding battered the region. Emergency officials confirmed that the Green River Levee failed in west central King County shortly before noon Pacific time, triggering rapid and potentially life-threatening flooding near the Green River in and around Tukwilla. The warning remains in effect through Monday evening, as water continues to spill into nearby low-lying areas, threatening homes, businesses, and infrastructure.
Flash flooding is impacting multiple communities, including Kent, Renton, and Tukwilla, along with surrounding waterways and drainage systems such as the Green River, the Duwamish Waterway, and the Cedar River. Authorities are urging anyone in flood-prone or low-elevation areas to move to higher ground immediately due to the rapidly rising water. The latest emergency comes as the region remains vulnerable following last week’s devastating floods, which forced highway closures, prompted evacuation orders for thousands of residents, and led to dozens of emergency rescues. Conditions may worsen as another atmospheric river is forecast to move through the area into Tuesday, bringing additional heavy rain and strong winds that could further strain flood defenses.
In coordination with King County, we have issued a FLASH FLOOD WARNING for a levee breach in Tukwila WA near Todd, Blvd. Water is likely moving north towards I-405. In addition, an evacuation notice is now in effect from King County.
