Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has officially become the longest-running number one single in Billboard Hot 100 history, topping the chart for a total of 20 weeks, Billboard confirmed Monday. The song now holds the record outright, surpassing Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” which it had tied just last week. With the holiday season underway, the Christmas classic is expected to extend its record even further in the coming weeks and years.
Since its release in 1994, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has become a seasonal staple, finally reaching the Hot 100’s top spot for the first time in 2019 during the streaming era, setting the record for the longest climb to number one. This week, the Hot 100 features eight holiday songs, with Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” at No. 2, Wham!’s “Last Christmas” at No. 3, Bobby Helms’ “Jingle Bell Rock” at No. 4, and Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me” at No. 5. Carey celebrated the milestone on social media, playfully subtweeting her own 2019 post and sharing a photo of herself holding a torch. Beyond the holiday season, Carey is set to be honored as MusiCares Person of the Year during the nonprofit’s annual gala on January 30, 2026, at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
