BREAKING NEWS
The gunman who killed four people before taking his own life, identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura, was reportedly aiming for the National Football League headquarters, New York City Mayor Eric Adams said Tuesday. Authorities believe Tamura mistakenly entered the wrong elevator, which led him to Rudin Management’s offices instead of the NFL, Adams said.
Tamura carried a three-page suicide note claiming he suffered a brain injury from playing contact sports and held the NFL responsible. Having played high school football himself, he reportedly wanted his brain studied after his death. An official motive has yet to be confirmed. Among those injured was an NFL employee, who remains hospitalized in stable condition, according to a league statement. Blackstone confirmed that executive Wesley LePatner was among those killed; colleagues remembered her as a highly respected and passionate leader.
Surveillance footage showed Tamura arriving in a black BMW with an M4 rifle before entering the 44-story office building at 345 Park Avenue, where he immediately shot an NYPD officer, a woman hiding in the lobby, a security guard, and another man. After allowing one woman to leave unharmed, he proceeded to the 33rd floor and fired multiple rounds at Rudin Management’s office, killing another person before shooting himself in the chest. NYPD officer Didarul Islam, a three-year veteran, was among those killed. Police officials described the attack as “pure evil” and mourned the loss of their fallen colleague.
