A small plane crashed Monday afternoon in Palm Beach County, Florida, injuring seven people, including four children, who were all taken to the hospital, officials said.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue responded to the single-engine plane crash around 4:30 p.m. EDT near the 3800 block of Lake Osborne Drive. Photos from the scene show the wreckage on a residential sidewalk, with the plane’s nose destroyed and tail broken. Authorities said the plane grazed the roof of a passenger car during the crash, causing major damage to the aircraft but only minor roof damage to the vehicle. Everyone had exited both the plane and car before first responders arrived. The Federal Aviation Administration identified the aircraft as an Orlican M8 Eagle, carrying two occupants. The fire rescue department said all seven people involved were hospitalized, with two transported as trauma alerts. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the plane’s pilot and passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while car passengers were treated as a precaution. The FAA is investigating the cause of the crash.
This incident follows several recent small plane crashes: a fatal crash in South Dakota early Monday, and weekend crashes off the coast of California and in Idaho that killed three people each.
