Sen. Cory Booker and Alexis Lewis are officially married, celebrating their union with two ceremonies held five days apart in locations meaningful to their relationship.

The first ceremony took place Monday, Nov. 24, at the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey in Newark, a city central to Booker’s political career, with their parents present as witnesses. A second celebration was held Saturday, Nov. 29, in Washington, D.C., Lewis’ hometown, where the couple gathered with family and friends.

The couple shared the news on Sunday through matching Instagram posts featuring photos from both events. “Overflowing with gratitude. We said ‘I do’ in two places that shaped us — Cory’s beloved Newark and Alexis’s hometown of Washington, D.C. — first at the courthouse, then with our families. Hearts full and so grateful,” they wrote.

Booker, a New Jersey Democrat, announced their engagement in September, describing Lewis as “one of the greatest unearned blessings of my life” and highlighting how she has helped him “ground and center my inner life” while discovering the joys of building a home together. The couple had been together about a year and a half before going public with their relationship, and met through mutual friends. Booker had previously expressed his eagerness to marry, noting in October that they planned to wed before the end of the year.
