QUEENS, NEW YORK – Authorities are investigating after a Customs and Border Protection officer discharged his firearm during an alleged altercation following a minor car accident near JFK Airport. The incident occurred just before 5 a.m. on the southbound Van Wyck Expressway near the entrance to the airport’s central terminal.
Officials say the officer reported that another driver attacked him after the fender-bender, prompting him to fire his duty weapon multiple times. When Port Authority officers arrived, no other individuals were present, and no injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing, and traffic delays affected drivers heading to JFK throughout the morning.
