DES MOINES, IOWA – A Delta Air Lines plane slid off the runway while landing at Des Moines International Airport in Iowa on Saturday night due to icy conditions amid a major Midwest snowstorm. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. local time.

All 58 passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft, and no injuries were reported. The flight had originated in Detroit, Michigan, and was uneventful until it encountered the icy runway in Des Moines. Delta Air Lines emphasized safety in a statement, apologizing to passengers for the incident.

Des Moines International Airport remains closed for regular operations but is expected to reopen by midday Sunday. The storm caused widespread travel disruptions across the Central U.S., with heavy snowfall leading to hundreds of crashes and the cancellation of over 1,000 flights at Chicago airports within 24 hours. Further travel issues were anticipated as travelers returned from Thanksgiving.
