BRONX, NEW YORK – At least eight people sustained injuries when an MTA bus lost control and collided with multiple vehicles in the Bronx on Monday afternoon.
The Bx6 bus was traveling on E 163rd Street near Cauldwell Avenue around 2 p.m. when the 63-year-old driver reportedly applied the emergency brakes, causing the bus to veer out of control. Over the course of several blocks, it struck both occupied and unoccupied cars before coming to a stop four blocks later.
Police said eight individuals, including the driver, suffered minor injuries. Some were taken to a nearby hospital, though all are expected to recover. The bus sustained heavy damage, with its windshield shattered and front door destroyed. Among the vehicles hit was a BMW that also knocked down a pedestrian traffic light, as well as an SUV that ended up on the sidewalk with deployed airbags.
Authorities have not yet determined why the driver applied the emergency brakes. The incident remains under investigation.
