SUSSEX COUNTY, NEW JERSEY – The father of a golfer who died after being struck by lightning over the summer is suing the New Jersey golf course where the incident occurred.
Scott Mariani and his 28-year-old son, Simon, were participating in a tournament in July at Ballyowen Golf Club in Sussex County when Simon was hit by lightning and later died at the hospital.
The lawsuit alleges that the golf course failed to prioritize the safety of players during the event. It claims that the course and its supervisors did not implement proper emergency protocols despite weather conditions that signaled the risk of lightning.
The golf course has not responded to requests for comment.
