The FBI announced a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect in Saturday’s deadly mass shooting at Brown University, as agents from the bureau’s Boston Division joined the Providence Police Department in the search.
The FBI released a poster featuring three images of the “unknown suspect,” describing him as a male around 5’8″ with a stocky build. FBI Director Kash Patel said additional personnel were deployed to help track leads, canvass neighborhoods, and gather intelligence, while the Evidence Response Team continues processing the scene on campus and the Quantico lab provides support. Security footage recently released shows a person of interest in connection with the shooting.
Providence police confirmed that two students were killed and nine others were injured during the classroom shooting in the Barus & Holley building on College Hill, an area where historic homes sit alongside campus structures. Brown University President Christina H. Paxson called the event “devastating gun violence.” The university requested interviews with anyone present in the building on Friday or Saturday, emphasizing that even minor details could aid the investigation.
State officials shared the FBI’s poster, and Governor Dan McKee directed the Rhode Island State Police to continue providing investigative and patrol support. McKee expressed a shared desire to see the shooter identified, apprehended, and brought to justice.
