NEW YORK – A fierce fire erupted Tuesday morning at a six-story apartment building on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, sending flaming debris onto the sidewalk and filling the streets with thick smoke.

The blaze started around 8:20 a.m. at the building on 107th Street and Amsterdam Avenue and quickly escalated to a fourth-alarm fire shortly after 9 a.m. The structure is believed to contain roughly 40 residential units.

Aerial footage showed the top floor fully engulfed in flames, with black smoke pouring from the rooftop as fire consumed parts of the roof. The left side of the building partially collapsed, sending flaming debris onto the street, including a large section that landed dangerously close to a fire engine.

Authorities have not yet reported any injuries, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Residents were urged to steer clear of the area, and those nearby were advised to keep windows closed for safety.
