TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has filed a sweeping lawsuit against Roblox Corporation, portraying the gaming platform as unsafe for children and accusing it of failing to put meaningful protections in place. The 76-page complaint argues that Roblox lacks adequate age-verification tools, enabling minors to enter spaces with adult content and allowing adults to disguise themselves as children to contact young users. As part of an investigation, the attorney general’s office created multiple test accounts posing as minors and an adult to observe how easily users could access sexually explicit games or interact with strangers. Investigators said they found games that allowed avatars to remove clothing, simulate sexual acts, or recreate scenes linked to infamous sexual-abuse scandals, raising concerns about how predators may exploit the platform.
The lawsuit, filed in Baker County, alleges multiple violations of the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act and seeks an injunction to force changes. Uthmeier, who has made youth online safety a central focus of his office, argues that Roblox has “broken the trust” of parents by failing to safeguard children and points to a growing number of lawsuits nationwide accusing the company of similar lapses. Roblox, which has over 111 million daily users, says these claims distort how the platform functions and maintains that it employs extensive safety measures, including AI-based age-estimation, ID verification, and strict limits on sharing images or inappropriate content. The company’s chief safety officer reaffirmed Roblox’s commitment to improving protections, acknowledging that no system is perfect but emphasizing ongoing efforts to strengthen safety across the platform.
