The Los Angeles Dodgers have continued their offseason spending spree by signing top free-agent closer Edwin Díaz to a three-year, $69 million contract. The deal, which carries an average annual value of $23 million, sets a new record for Major League Baseball relievers. Díaz, 31, leaves the New York Mets to join the two-time defending World Series champions.

Díaz has been among the league’s elite closers since his first All-Star selection in 2018. A three-time Reliever of the Year (2018, 2022, 2025), he has amassed 253 career saves, tied for fourth among active players. The Dodgers had struggled with their bullpen in 2025, though rookie Roki Sasaki helped stabilize it during the postseason. With Díaz taking over closing duties, Sasaki may return to the starting rotation in 2026. Meanwhile, the Mets have moved quickly to replace Díaz, signing reliever Devin Williams from the New York Yankees, who is expected to assume the closer role next season.
