Frederick Green, 20, appeared in a New York City court on Tuesday after being charged in the Nov. 16 shooting of New York Jets player Kris Boyd. Authorities located Green at an apartment complex near Buffalo a day earlier. He faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, and was held without bail. Green did not enter a plea during his arraignment.
The incident occurred shortly after 2 a.m. outside a Manhattan restaurant, where Boyd was with Jets teammates Irvin Charles and Jamien Sherwood. Court records indicate a group of men mocked the players’ clothing, sparking a confrontation. Surveillance footage shows Green wearing a mask, pulling a gun from a backpack, and firing two shots toward Boyd, then leaving the scene in a white BMW. Prosecutors say Green fled the city the next day, cutting his hair, abandoning his phone, and deleting social media accounts to evade capture. U.S. Marshals eventually tracked him to the Buffalo area, where he initially tried to jump from a window before surrendering.
Boyd was hospitalized in critical condition but later visited the Jets’ facility, surprising teammates and attending a team meeting. Prosecutors said he continues to face medical complications, including a bullet fragment lodged in his pulmonary artery and lung, and may require further surgery. Boyd, who joined the Jets earlier this year, had missed time due to a prior injury and has yet to play for the team. He previously played four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings and had stints with the Arizona Cardinals and Houston practice squad.
