Nick Reiner, 32, the son of acclaimed director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer, is accused of murdering his parents. Authorities said the case against him will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for consideration on Tuesday.
The Reiners’ daughter discovered her parents stabbed to death in their Brentwood home on Sunday. Nick Reiner was not at the residence when the bodies were found and was later taken into custody near the University of Southern California on Sunday night. He has been booked for murder and is being held without bail. Sources say that the night before the incident, Nick and Rob Reiner had an argument at a holiday party, where Nick was reportedly acting erratically.
Rob Reiner was a legendary Hollywood director, producer, and actor, known for iconic films such as The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Stand By Me, This is Spinal Tap, and A Few Good Men. He first gained fame as Michael Stivic, or “Meathead,” on the TV sitcom All in the Family, earning two Emmy Awards for the role.
Neighbors reported that actors Billy Crystal and Larry David visited the home after police arrived. Rob Reiner, the son of comedian Carl Reiner and actress Estelle Lebost, was also a noted advocate for social and economic justice.
In a statement, the Lear family expressed their grief, calling the loss “devastating” and highlighting Rob Reiner’s close bond with Norman Lear and the impact of his work. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass also mourned the deaths, praising Reiner’s contributions to American culture and society and his advocacy for justice.
