New York State Police reported the results of their Thanksgiving weekend traffic enforcement initiative, which ran from Wednesday, November 26, through Sunday, November 30, and was funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
During the crackdown, troopers issued a total of 13,036 tickets across the state, made 247 arrests for DWI, and investigated 1,277 crashes, including two fatal collisions. Officers conducted sobriety checkpoints, deployed extra DWI patrols, and cited drivers using handheld electronic devices. Enforcement also targeted speeding and aggressive driving. Ticket breakdown included 4,454 for speeding, 278 for distracted driving, 1,108 for seatbelt violations, and 243 for Move Over Law infractions.
For comparison, last year’s Thanksgiving enforcement resulted in 12,867 tickets and 259 DWI arrests statewide.
