Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, the Warner Bros. film starring Leonardo DiCaprio that has dominated awards chatter since its late September release, will arrive exclusively on HBO Max on Friday, December 19. The streaming debut comes a day before the film premieres on the HBO linear channel. An ASL-accessible version will also be available.
The movie blends crime, political action thriller, and dark comedy, following DiCaprio’s character Bob, a washed-up revolutionary living off the grid in a haze of paranoia alongside his fiercely independent daughter Willa (Chase Infiniti). When Bob’s longtime adversary (Sean Penn) reappears after 16 years, and Willa goes missing, he must confront his past to rescue her. The cast also includes Benicio Del Toro, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor.
Since opening on September 26, the film has earned over $200 million globally and has already won Best Picture honors from the New York and Los Angeles critics groups and the National Board of Review, as well as Best Feature at the Gotham Awards. It leads the Golden Globe nominations with nine nods and is up for 14 Critics’ Choice Awards. The film is produced by Adam Somner, Sara Murphy, and Anderson, with Will Weiske serving as executive producer.
