Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday (R) has formally endorsed State Treasurer Stacy Garrity (R) in her campaign for governor.
In a statement Wednesday, Sunday praised Garrity’s record of public and private service, saying the state needs “leaders who put service over self.” “From her time serving our country in the Army, her experience in the private sector, and now as our State Treasurer, Stacy has always worked tirelessly to better her community,” he said. “I’m proud to endorse Stacy Garrity for Governor so that all Pennsylvanians can benefit from her boundless energy and her selfless service that will make a better and safer Pennsylvania for all.”
Garrity and Sunday ran on the same ticket in 2024, with Garrity seeking re-election as Treasurer and Sunday running for Attorney General, and both also campaigned together for Dave McCormick’s Senate bid. Garrity is the state Republican Party’s endorsed candidate for governor, while Westmoreland County resident John Ventre is also a declared candidate. State Senator Doug Mastriano, who won the 2022 Republican primary but lost to Josh Shapiro, has indicated he is considering another run and is expected to make a decision by January 2026.
Incumbent Governor Josh Shapiro is widely expected to seek re-election but has not officially launched his campaign. Pennsylvania’s primary election is scheduled for May 19, 2026.
