The Powerball jackpot has surged to $1 billion after Wednesday night’s drawing produced no winner, marking the second time the prize has reached a billion dollars this year and ranking as the seventh-largest jackpot in the game’s history.
The current jackpot is estimated at $461.3 million in cash value, with winners given the option to claim either annual payments totaling roughly $1 billion or a one-time lump sum. The largest prize ever awarded in Powerball history was $2.04 billion on November 7, 2022. Since two tickets in Missouri and Texas split the $1.787 billion jackpot on September 6, there have been 40 consecutive drawings without a winner. The next drawing is scheduled for Saturday. Odds of winning are 1 in 292.2 million, and tickets are sold for $2 each.
