Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) filed articles of impeachment on Wednesday against Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., accusing him of abusing his authority and undermining public health. The resolution, which spans 13 pages, highlights Kennedy’s controversial actions, including cutting funding for vaccine research, promoting a link between Tylenol use and autism, and dismissing members of several HHS advisory panels.
“Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has turned his back on science, on public health, and on the American people – spreading conspiracies and lies, driving up costs, and putting lives at risk,” Stevens said in a statement. The move comes amid a wave of impeachment efforts among House Democrats, which also target Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and former President Donald Trump. Stevens, who is running in a contested Senate primary in Michigan and is considered the most moderate of the three candidates, joins other Democrats responding to calls from the party base to take a more confrontational stance against Trump and his allies. HHS spokesperson Andrew Nixon dismissed the effort as politically motivated, saying, “Secretary Kennedy remains focused on improving Americans’ health and lowering costs. Not on partisan theatrics designed to elevate standing in a failing, third-rate Senate bid.” Given Republican control of both chambers of Congress, the impeachment effort faces significant hurdles.
