Three people lost their lives after a catamaran capsized on the Caloosahatchee River along Florida’s Gulf Coast on Saturday. The incident occurred around 4 p.m. near the Cape Coral Yacht Club, situated between Cape Coral and Fort Myers, according to authorities with the Lee County Marine Emergency Response Team.
Four individuals were aboard the vessel when it flipped, ejecting them into the river. Rescue teams from state, local, and federal agencies recovered three of the victims on Saturday. Two were pronounced dead at the scene, while a third was taken to a hospital in critical condition. On Sunday, a fourth person, a 60-year-old who had been missing since the accident, was found dead and retrieved from the river following an extensive search led by the U.S. Coast Guard. The identities of the deceased have not been released, and the Coast Guard continues to investigate the cause of the accident.
