President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he is granting a “full and unconditional pardon” to Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas), who was indicted last year on conspiracy and bribery charges, which he denied.
The move is notable because, while Trump has previously granted clemency to several former Democratic officials, it is highly unusual for him to pardon a sitting Democratic member of Congress.
Cuellar has not immediately responded to requests for comment.
