Ukraine formally submitted its response to the U.S. peace plan on Wednesday, providing a detailed point-by-point review of the latest draft, according to Ukrainian and U.S. officials. The response comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky faces growing pressure from the Trump administration to accept a 20-point plan that would require significant territorial concessions and other major compromises.
Zelensky’s national security adviser and chief negotiator, Rustem Umerov, sent the response to Jared Kushner, a top Trump adviser and son-in-law, after consulting with European allies, primarily France, Germany, and the U.K. Ukrainian officials said their submission includes proposed amendments and alternative approaches to address contentious issues such as territorial boundaries and the management of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Trump noted he was awaiting the Ukrainian response and suggested progress might be closer than ever. Meanwhile, senior U.S. and Ukrainian military officials are expected to hold a virtual meeting on Thursday to discuss specific elements of the plan, while Trump also spoke with European leaders about a possible in-person meeting with Zelensky in Europe.
