Steve Regal, the wrestling star famously known as “Mr. Electricity,” has passed away at the age of 73. Regal’s death, which occurred in July, was confirmed by the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), which paid tribute to the former champion’s impact on the sport.
Regal began his professional wrestling career in 1977, eventually rising to prominence in the American Wrestling Association (AWA). He captured the AWA World Light Heavyweight Championship and had notable victories over competitors like Buck Zumhofe and The Road Warriors. In 1986, Regal defeated Denny Brown to claim the NWA junior heavyweight title, a milestone that helped pave the way for future generations of wrestlers. He made his WWF debut the same year, teaming with Terry Gibbs against Junkyard Dog and George Steele, and later faced off against stars such as Tito Santana and Pedro Morales. Standing 6 feet tall, Regal also held the NWA Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Championship twice, the PWA Light Heavyweight Championship, and several other titles over a career that spanned nearly two decades before his retirement in 1996. The NWA extended condolences to his family, friends, and fans, honoring his legacy as a flashy and charismatic performer.
