eBay simplifies vehicle transactions

Buying and selling a vehicle on eBay has become safer and more convenient with the introduction of Secure Purchase, a new all-in-one solution for managing payments, financing, registration, ownership transfer, and transport. This system is designed to simplify the entire process and add security by verifying both buyers and sellers, automating paperwork, and ensuring digital, traceable funds.

Secure Purchase works by having both parties verify their identities and provide vehicle details at checkout, allowing buyers to choose financing, transport, protection, and insurance options easily. Sellers upload key documents such as the title, VIN, and odometer reading, which are verified through national databases to ensure accuracy. Transactions conclude with digital signatures and secure fund transfers, which trigger registration and title transfer without requiring a visit to the DMV.

Jesse Kiefer, GM of vehicles at eBay, said Secure Purchase reduces complexity and builds confidence for both buyers and sellers, allowing customers to shop nationwide with ease. The system is backed by Caramel Dealer Services LLC, an automotive transaction provider eBay acquired in early 2025.

Since launching eBay Motors as a standalone app in 2019, eBay has expanded features such as searchable tire inventory, tire installation booking, and eBay Guaranteed Fit, which ensures parts compatibility. The company also acquired myFitment, offering tools for parts sellers and buyers, and introduced “My Garage,” a feature that helps users find compatible accessories based on their vehicle’s make and model. eBay Motors continues to grow, offering millions of automotive parts and accessories for purchase on both the website and app.

Founded in 1995 in San Jose, California, eBay facilitated over $73 billion in gross merchandise volume in 2023.
