Carvana, an omnichannel platform for buying and selling used cars, is expanding its production capacity and inventory in Seattle by adding inspection and reconditioning center (IRC) capabilities to its existing ADESA wholesale auction site. While maintaining its digital and in-lane auction operations, this expansion aims to boost Carvana’s national reconditioning capacity and improve the inventory available for both retail and wholesale customers in the greater Seattle area.
The 40-acre ADESA Seattle site in Auburn, Washington, has served wholesale customers for more than 40 years and features 4,000 parking spaces. Carvana’s expansion there includes hiring about 100 new employees in inspection, reconditioning, and fulfillment roles, ranging from entry-level to skilled positions. This move follows similar upgrades at other ADESA locations nationwide, including Nashville, Colorado Springs, Phoenix, and Manville, New Jersey. The Seattle facility will also implement Carvana’s proprietary CARLI software to improve efficiency, scalability, and consistency across its IRC network.
Carvana’s e-commerce model offers a unique seven-day return policy instead of a traditional test drive, giving customers ample time to decide if the vehicle suits their needs. Customers can also quickly sell their current vehicle by submitting a VIN or license plate number on Carvana.com and receiving an offer in minutes, with the option for Carvana to pick up the vehicle and provide payment as soon as the next day. The company offers same- and next-day vehicle delivery in over 300 U.S. markets, along with innovative “car vending machines” in select locations that allow buyers to schedule vehicle pickup after purchase. Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Phoenix, Carvana continues to expand its footprint with this latest Seattle investment.
