A 9-year-old girl who went into distress while visiting Hersheypark’s water park has been identified as Sophia Subedi. Officials from the Bhutanese Community in Harrisburg confirmed that Sophia experienced the emergency on July 24 at The Boardwalk, a water park area within Hersheypark.
John Lawn, CEO of Hershey Entertainment & Resorts, said lifeguards quickly responded and performed a rescue, followed by ongoing life-saving efforts from lifeguards, first responders, and medical staff. Sophia was taken to Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, but despite extensive efforts, she did not recover. Described as a bright and loving child, Sophia’s sudden passing has deeply affected the community. The Bhutanese Community in Harrisburg expressed condolences and asked for public support and prayers for the Subedi family. Sophia was born in 2016 in Columbus, Ohio, and had lived in Harrisburg since 2022. Those wishing to help the family can visit their GoFundMe campaign.
