Steelers release All-Pro returner Cordarrelle Patterson

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Monday they have released running back and All-Pro kick returner Cordarrelle Patterson. Patterson, a 12-year NFL veteran, appeared in 13 games during the 2024-25 season before his release.

At 34 years old, Patterson signed a two-year, $6 million contract with the Steelers last offseason but did not participate in organized team activities or training camp. Limited by an ankle injury, he averaged a career-low 21.8 yards per kick return last season. Despite that, Patterson holds NFL records for career kick returns (284), kick return yards (8,229), and kick return touchdowns (nine). Over his career, he totaled 44 touches for 215 yards from scrimmage last season and had a standout 2021 season with the Atlanta Falcons, recording 1,166 yards and 11 touchdowns. Patterson was the 29th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings and has also played for the Raiders, Patriots, and Bears.
