Whistle, a Mars subsidiary known for pet trackers, has announced it is being acquired by Tractive. Following the acquisition, Whistle trackers will stop functioning, but Tractive is offering free replacement trackers for a limited period. The shutdown for Whistle’s devices is set for August 31, 2025, and users can request a replacement until September 30, 2025, by submitting their tracker’s serial number and selecting a new Tractive device.
Tractive will also credit any prepaid Whistle subscriptions toward new Tractive accounts and provide two months of free subscription to users with Whistle trackers that do not have active subscriptions. Whistle’s products, such as the Whistle Go Explore and Whistle Fit, use GPS, Wi-Fi, and AT&T’s network to monitor pets’ locations. Tractive offers similar tracking features, with added wearable health monitoring, including heart rate, respiratory rate, and barking alerts, available through paid subscriptions. Its Basic plan costs $108 annually, while a Premium plan at $120 per year includes worldwide coverage and GPS data export. Although transferring to a new tracker may be inconvenient, this transition is considered favorable compared to other acquisitions.
