The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) aims to use a new AI tool to cut half of the federal government’s regulatory mandates, according to reports. The DOGE AI Deregulation Decision Tool is designed to analyze approximately 200,000 federal regulations and identify those no longer required by law, targeting the elimination of half the regulations within a year of President Donald Trump’s return to office.
The initiative appears to be in progress, with the tool already applied to review regulations at the Department of Housing and Urban Development and responsible for writing all deregulations at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. While a White House spokesperson said no official plan has been approved yet, they praised the DOGE team as “the best and brightest in the business.” This project follows earlier AI tools developed by DOGE, including one under Elon Musk’s leadership in the Trump administration that reportedly had errors related to Veterans Affairs contracts.
