Health advisories issued for air quality in parts of New York

An air quality health advisory has been issued for Sunday across eastern New York state. The alert, announced by the state Department of Environmental Conservation and Department of Health, affects the Capital Region, Hudson Valley, and New York City.

The advisory warns that certain groups may face negative health effects, although the general public is less likely to be impacted. Sensitive populations include children and teens, the elderly, pregnant individuals, people with lung or heart conditions, asthmatics, outdoor workers or exercisers, and residents of disadvantaged communities. These groups are advised to limit outdoor activities and take frequent breaks. The rest of the state is expected to experience moderate air quality levels. The advisory remains in effect until 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
